Google announced yesterday that they are planning to roll out their Social Search feature in the coming week in 19 more languages (and more on the way). Launched in 2009 as an experimental feature, Google’s Social Search allows you to find relevant information through your online friends and acquaintances.
The new Social Search feature will be personalized to you and is based on relevant, publicly visible data found through your contacts’ social activity. The search is powered by your social connections through your Gmail contacts, Google Talk friends list, Google Buzz followers as well as your Gmail contacts on Twitter, Flickr, Blogger and other social media outlets.
In the past, you may have noticed the “Results from people in your social circle” at the bottom of the page that was a similar feature to Social Search. However, after making a few tweaks, this new roll out plans to further integrate Social Search by combining it with organic search results and allowing you to see the name and picture of the person you know who shared relevant content. In honor of Earth Day a couple weeks ago, we’d like to take this time and talk about current trends in green living and what we’re doing to ensure our company is more environmentally-friendly. Being green and saving energy is most often about changing our habits. Whether it’s turning off a light switch when we leave a room or not leaving the water running while we brush our teeth, these little changes that can make a huge difference.
Active Website employees make an active effort to set forth these changes in our every day work environment. At any given time, you’ll notice that several offices have the lights turned off relying more on natural lighting. Some might call us crazy, but we call it enlightened – pardon the pun.
