Search Technology in 2011

Stemming from the recent announcement that Google is dropping their real estate search services, we’d like to take this time and introduce The Active Enterprise Network’s plan for search in 2011. Focusing on customer centricity and usability, The Active Enterprise Network is revolutionizing the way online customers search for properties.

Part of Google’s decision to drop their real estate search services was due to their inability to compete with the functionality available on many real estate websites. Google leaving the real estate realm gives us the opportunity to further differentiate ourselves from other syndication outlets through the technology available on our sites.

One way we can do this is through our search technology. Although Google is no longer competing with us in terms of real estate, they are still the leaders when it comes to search so we need to take a closer look at how they achieved market leadership. One major reason Google won their market share against other search engines is because they created the most intelligent search field in the industry. As a result, the end user is given the most relevant data related to their search.

In order to achieve similar success, The Active Enterprise Network is replicating Google’s technology for natural language search. The natural language search functionality is not available on any other real estate site – further setting The Active Enterprise Network apart from the competition. (more…)

As we all know, Google offers free enterprise-level web analytics that gives us insight into our online traffic. Through the comprehensive reporting options available through analytics, we have access to important data about campaign tracking, site search statistics, goal conversions and more– making us better equipped to manage our marketing efforts effectively and improve web conversions.

Today, we heard that Google has plans to take this one step further and will be releasing a paid-for analytics package sometime this year that will compete with top products including Adobe’s Omniture and IBM’s CoreMetrics. Google currently has a basic paid-for analytics package called Urchin, but the new package is an enhanced version that will compete at the higher end of the market. (more…)

One week after Google’s surprise announcement that they will no longer be offering their real estate services, popular syndication outlets Zillow and Yahoo! Real Estate have announced their decision to enter into an exclusive partnership. Through this partnership, properties listed with Zillow will automatically be accessible from Yahoo! Real Estate as well.  Additionally, those who advertise through Zillow’s advertising programs will be able to increase their exposure and gain access to a new set of customers.

Since Google’s announcement, there has been a lot of buzz about the topic of syndication and what that means for our industry. It’s interesting to us that two “Black Hat” syndication outlets have decided to merge together as one is pulling out of the race. With this announcement, we really need to ask ourselves, does this partnership and increase in exposure really benefit us? (more…)
